Geography Department Colloquium on Sept. 18 (1-2:30)- “Silence Sam” Screening

September 18, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

To continue the conversation surrounding monuments to white supremacy from our last colloquium event with Omololu Refilwe Babatunde, we will be hosting a screening of the film “Silence Sam” this Friday at 1pm. The film, created by students of the UNC School of Media & Journalism, is a documentary aimed at creating dialogue around the confederate monument that stood on UNC’s campus for over a century, Silent Sam. The film also engages with the systemic silencing of student activism by university administrators and law enforcement, and troubles questions of the legacy of racism on our campus and in our state. The screening will be followed by a short discussion.
