I Know What You Did Last Summer Colloquium

Hello geographers,
This is not an ideal semester for any of us. And this week is stressful and disorienting. We are supposed to be starting a semester, not transitioning. But here we are, shifting, re-organizing, moving, caring for each other, empathizing, and checking on each other. For some of you, the shift to remote learning might not be affecting your school schedule directly. However, the shift is affecting all of us because our students, friends, siblings, and classmates might be having to move or re-organize their lives and schedules to accommodate this transition.
This is when we need to build and strengthen community the most.
I am writing to remind you of one of my favorite departmental events that bring geographers together to talk about the things we do to stay (quirkily) sane: the colloquium “I know what you did last summer!” Instructors, grads, ugrads– all can participate! It is this Friday, 8/21, 1-2:30PM. Please contact Keara McLean (kmclean@unc.edu) to let her know that you are coming and have something to share. Or you can just show up! The more, the merrier. And, if you are a geography major or minor seeking to stay connected with our geography community, consider joining our Geography Advisory Group –GUAC. This is a group of students planning formal and informal get togethers to talk about things that geographers care about. If you are interested in joining, please let me know.
