In his Fall ’21 courses, Dr. Jon Lepofsky’s students will connect with other students beyond the classrooms through two different endeavors. GEOG121 (Geographies of Globalization) will be a part of the Institute of African American Research’s UNC-wide initiative for Student Learning to Advance Truth and Equity (SLATE). For GEOG468 (Environmental Justice in Urban Europe), Lepofsky received a Curriculum Development Award for Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). Students in GEOG468 will collaborate on a joint project with students at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. Through both opportunities, students will bridge disciplines and cultures to learn more about constructions of race, structures of racism, and efforts to realize racial equity in different places from and with each other.
