Geography graduate student Angus Lyall has been offered the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement (DDRI). Angus’ dissertation project explores the contentious negotiations between indigenous groups and the Ecuadorian state over oil production in the Amazon, in particular examining the social and historical conditions that shape “consent” to oil extraction at key sites.
