Visiting Scholars
Summer 2012
Martin Muller, Assistant Professor of Geography, University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Dr. Muller will spend the summer in the Department preparing a special journal issue on mega-events and their effects on the urban landscapes and political economies of eastern Europe. He will be working with John Pickles.
Carolyn Schurr is visiting the Department from the Geographical Institute at the University of Bern. She will work with Sara Smith and to carry out research on the geographies of surrogate
motherhood.
Fall 2011
Ulrich Oslender, Assistant Professor of Geography in the Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies at Florida International University will spend the Fall semester in Chapel Hill working on a book project on race, space, and landscape in Ecuador.
Spring 2010
James LOONEY. Doctoral Candidate, Department of Geography, University of North Carolina. Mr. Looney will spend the spring semester at UNC working in the archives and writing his dissertation. He will also be affiliated with the Center for Human Sciences.
Fall 2009
Joe GERLACH. Doctoral Candidate, School of Geography and Environmental Science, Oxford University. Joe spent the Fall semester in the Department working with and studying the work of the Counter-Cartographies-Collective.
2008-2009
Professor JIANG Ningchuan , Chair and Associate Dean, Chengdu College of Textiles, Chengdu, China. Professor Jiang spent the academic year in the Department of Geography and the Carolina Asia Center, where he worked on US-China Apparel Trade disputes.
