The Geography Department hosted the annual Eyre Lecture on December 2nd, featuring one of its own faculty for the first time.
Dr. Stephen Birdsall, who is retiring following 50 years of teaching,research and service at UNC, spoke on Wayfaring: Places, Limits, Purposes. In his presentation, he reflected on why places matter, the limitations we impose on each other, and basic reasons for overcoming those limits.
Birdsall was the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1992 to 1997 (following a year as Acting Dean). The event brought out faculty, students and the broader UNC community in celebration of his work, accomplishments and legacy at UNC.
