In Nov 18, 2015’s GIS day event, which was co-sponsored by Geography department and Davis Library, Tim Stallmann, who graduated from geography’s master program, did an excellent presentation on “Mapping for Social Chang”, followed by a map competition, which was open to all students in UNC-CH.

There were about 12 submissions to the map competition, including a map developed on cartodb.com. Taylor Nelsen, who is a geography major, won the first place, with her map “Mapping the Food Deserts of Newport News, VA”. Another student, Andrea Stewart, who is a geography minor, won the third place.
